I think before we dive into Blu-ray people would want to have an approximate of how much they would expect paying for a BR project. But quality wise and for archival purpose I think that BR is a good way to go.
Also, depending on the source it would make a significant difference. If the source is a beaten up VHS of course DVD is more than enough but if the master comes from a 35 or 16mm print maybe the upgrade is really intersting.

i have discussed this before but the opinion was there would not be enough fan support to justify the effort. i didn't agree so i want to ask the fans here.
I think everybody’s top price they would be pay for a blu-ray restoration project would greatly differ. Also the price would vary depending on the title and its overall quality.
For me, personally, I take more interest in these projects from an archival perspective, as Monkeygift pointed out.I want these films to last longer than two or three generations.A lot of these 35mm prints are deteriorating quickly and who knows how much longer they can last.I really want to help make sure our children and our children’s children get to see some of these films. With the better the quality that we can preserve them, I believe there is a much better chance people 50 to 100 years from now will actually sit through and enjoy the movie. My daughter is four right now, and in a few more years when I expose her to these old flicks, I don’t believe she’ll sit through a VHS quality Fu film. 20 years from now they may say the same about DVD quality. That’s why I’m all for doing a blu-ray project right now and may shell out more for this reason before we lose more 35mm prints.
very well said pai mei its such logical posts that give me hope and make me understand we are not wasting our time thank you for your input its appreciated.
i will just add this quote that inspires me
