I'd go for wide VHS quality, but there's no reason that removeable subs can't be made as well as the embedded ones. Removeable subs will be much easier to read, and it's only lazy not to make them if embedded subs are already there, it only recquires them to be typed and timed.
If the embedded subs are unreadable or in the letterbox space you are totally right. But if the embbed subs are clear, there is no point in making new subs over them.
Why was my last post deleted? There was no arguments in this thread, it was just a peaceful exchange of views on projects. I thought that was the whole point of a thread like this? I don't see why you'd delete a post for no reason at all. If the mods here are gonna remove posts that are not argumentative or in any way negative, then I see no reason for anyone to post here. But I'm sure even this post will be removed too.

i do not think its wise for me to comment on you or your comments personaly other than to thank you for your advice. both of your comments are gone so don't take it personaly ok dude? both you guys know it starts friendly and escolates.:) i can't speak for anyone but i think (readers) they want to read about movies and posibilities not personal issues. the mods are not here to explain what you did or he did you are grown men. they try to keep the peace and remain neutral. personaly i find that remastered subtitles over existing emedded subtitles is not my prefered choice. i find it distracting and ugly. i was having sunday viewings at my house one time and i showed that version of massacure survivour with remastered subs and i was laughed at literaly. the general agreement of all parties was the theatrical subs gave more of the origonal feel of the film was and of when everyone first saw these films projected and i tend to agree. i guess it all comes down to how you were first exposed to these films and thats why some people prefer dubs over subs or shaws over independants or film over dvd.i know people that refuse to watch a movie on dvd that does not take away from my enjoyment of the films. its all about choice but you can say now a days we are spoiled for choice. so we are not going to decide for people what they want. we want to hear from them thats the point and i encourage everyone to post or vote because we welcome all points of view. all are valueble because it helps us get better with each effort. i think our work now is better because we are getting more experienced with each try. we await the feedback from everyone on how we can get better. thats another reason why we don't rush out and just dump everything out there. we are taking our time and making the effort to have the best result we can each and every time and get better and better and continue for a long time and do it in a sustainable way.
maybe a more tangible example of what i mean is needed. the main reason why i ask this is i have a choice between a japanese wide vhs with embedded subs VS a broadcast level fullscreen version of the film but it has no subs and remastered subs would look beautiful on it. the quality is 10x better seems like a simple choice right?? wrong! now try to please everyone and see! so the point of this poll is to get the fans opinions and get the conjecture out of the way so we can get down to the nitty gritty of giving fans what they want. before future releases are done so we avoid what fans don't want. its not easy at all to find the proper ratio of opinion if the threads continue to go off topic or burst into a flame war or we turn people off so please bear with us if we try to keep it rated G. i really hope you understand
I do understand, and I don't want any kind of flame war or arguments at all. I've had enough of those in the past and it takes too much negative energy to sustain that kind of thing. But that's what surprised me, I thought the views expressed in this thread were all rational and not argumentative. Anyway, your point about pleasing everyone being impossible is a valid point, and the only thing I will add in regards to removeable subs vs embedded subs is that removeable (lol, as the title suggests) are removeable. So if they're there, people who prefer embedded can switch them off via the DVD remote, and likewise those who want them can switch them on. I think this keeps everyone happy regarding the subs debate. And for the sake of clarity, I'd say go for the widescreen print over the fullscreen print everytime. Picture quality is nice, but even a battered widescreen print can be cleaned up, but sadly missing film cannot be restored to fullscreen.

Of course it's all a matter of how bad the wide print is. Damage is one thing but clarity is another. Massacre Survivor is an example of a very damaged print but still the image is very clear and not blurry or fuzzy.
Also, remastered subtitles - to me, "remastered" also means cleaned up in terms of language. Good understandable english, and not the terrible spelling and grammar we have all seen so much of.
