This is a question to the Kung Fu community. As we all love our martial arts films we also like to have substancial releases with bonuses, remastered picture, custom subs, multiple audio tracks, a nice DVD cover, menus etc...
Of course some people are releasing films barebone without any of the above mentioned and are asking top dollars. But we at HOUNDSLOWTEAM are trying our best to gather all the possible material to make the best releases for the fans. However, this goes without saying that there should be a price tag to it. We are using all the collected money to reinvest in further projects (translation, new rare movies incquiries, etc). We are not using this money to pay off a student's loan or buy a new purse for our wives. lol!
So in your opinion, what should be a fair price for such projects, given the fact that you will always end up with the BEST version of a film available on the market?

well we charged 14$ last time and we ended up losing but thats not the problem as our goal was to get miss be patient translated and we did that. the reason we lost last time was the shipping and its more than fair to ask people to pay their own shipping from now on. i can can only speak for myself but if i want something i buy it if someone is willing to support any of our efforts its because they want to. but we have to figure out a way to reduce the shipping cost if someone wants that option. for example ship with or without a full sized plastic case can make a big difference in wieght and thickness but like i say they can choose that option. these days you gotta save $ anywhere you can.
We ended up losing on Miss Please because we had to pay for a translator, pay for shipping and pay for every little expenses such as blank discs, printing covers and plastic boxes. But the 3 last ones are part of releasing a disc and it's not that costy so it's ok.
The things that really cost when releasing a custom project is obviously shipping and translation (if you need to pay for one). Also, sometimes you also pay for the film material that you use to make the transfer, for example Canton Viper's master cost 300$ but people don't see or know that. So at the end, if you release a rare film and add subs to it you need to get back more or less 500-600$, that's why we will need to charge over 15$-20$ for some projects.
If anyone outside Houndslowteam want to step up with ideas or comments please do so. We would love to hear from you.
