dick wei and jet li went at it in this one some downand dirty action in this one. sammo would have been proud and it seems dick wei learned a thing or two about directing action. the setting in America added a big budget feel to this film compared to most modern actioners. i don't think jet was such a big film star at the time but it seemed hk producers wanted to capitalize on his popularity and his biggest claim to fame up to that point performing in the USA on tour and meeting the president. before jet was big in films you can ask and many Chinese remember that child star shaking hands with the president. if you haven't seen this you need to do yourself a favor and do so. fans of jet li will be amazed they haven't seen this little released gem before. fans that frown upon jets wire dependant flowerly films will be shocked and the brutality and ferocity of the action jet is throwing down. this film is a unique offering in jets filmography dick wei is his usual ruthless self. the betrayer in the search for fast money defects from the mainland wu shu team and leaves jet in a precarious position on the run confused and alone unable to speak English he is a victim of mistaken identity and some how someway ends up being friends with steven chow! he is not so over the top in this one and also wasn't a big star at the time so its interesting to se flashes of what was to become the comic genius that would make kung fu hustle years later. its one of my favorite roles of his though i'm not sure why. maybe its more realistic than the slapstick dip **** comedy he is most famous for. he is very convincing at being a slick talking small time hustler that spends a great deal of time getting his ass wooped and i mean woooooped all in all he is like-able even though you know he is scum lol the final reel is pure adreniline ranks right up there with the action classics of the time.
